When we last crossed paths, the stoic producer and multi-instrumentalist Devin Kroes was on the heels of his Breathe EP, a cinematic and energetic three-track collection. Two years later, and he’s put the finishing touches on the fruit of an altogether more intensive labor; with The Rust Music serving as home base for his latest release, he’s pulling back the curtain on his arduous and expansive ten-track LP, There Is Growth Here

Brimming with attitude and sharp tonality, There is Growth Here maneuvers from end to end with clear compositional intention; each track is the launchpad for the subsequent song, easily blending the berth of styles housed under one umbrella. With psychedelia and psybient fundamentals abound, this latest spate of tracks showcase rhythms ranging from scintillating and groovy downtempo through to elevated drum and bass, all the while showing off Kroes’ penchant and skill with latin riffs and six-string leads, tying the knot on a marked infusion of world-music into his established palette. With style, finesse, and clear compositional confidence, Taking its spot as the 78th Rust Music release, the There Is Growth Here LP hits every mark and then some, and we’re exceptionally excited to offer the record in both digital and vinyl formats.

Aquiver - Feeding Organs

Continuing the pervasive trend of Israeli excellence in electronic production, Aquiver has spent the last few years minting and releasing a strong grip of EPs and tracks that dip between psybient and heavy-handed influences. With a notable focus on downbeat grooves and accentuated melodies, Aquiver's latest EP, Feeding Organs, comes as a fresh interpretation of time-tested psychedelic motifs with a spirited dancefloor energy.

Packing 5 original tracks and 1 thorough remix, Feeding Organs comes in with a modest runtime and an impressive palette of tones right out of the gate. Flipping between downtempo rhythmic accents and whips of psydub inspiration, a whole spectrum of contemporary, cold-pressed sound design flitters in and out of the picture with liquid ease. Whether it's tightly-wound bass lines, crisp snares, airy percussion, or the melodious bent of those elements in tandem, Aquiver's Feeding Organs is a one-stop shop for psybient adventures and salient compositions that are sure to sit right with any discerning soundheads.

3420 - Tenacious

Carrying the forward momentum of hybridized studio productions and live acts, the multi-instrumentalist trio 3420 has proven to be a powerhouse both on and off the stage. Hailing from Denver, Colorado, they're already right at home in a city and a potential fan base that's served as ground zero for live producer-driven acts across the last decade. Stirring numerous musical disciplines into one super-charged package, there's little territory they won't cover with their signature flare. With a clear dedication to pushing their formula and style wherever and whenever possible, The Rust is proud to host the release of their latest EP; Tenacious.

Spanning five distinct flavors across five unique compositions, Tenacious puts the triple brain-trust of 3420 on direct display. Ranging from hip-hop and DnB rhythms to brolic bass music motifs, the band manages to find the instrumental pocket of even their most digitally-driven productions. With organic drum timbres, six-string guitar, contemporary sound design, and the know-how to mingle it all without oversaturating any individual element, the progression of each composition slides almost effortlessly into the next. If tenacity is the goal, then Tenacious is the dialed-in journey that gets 3420 over that line, and if you've got the same appetite for novel blends and pocketed jams that we do, then you're in for a serious treat.

Langwidj - Escape Plan

Artwork by Vibrational Perspectives

Hailing from Tallahassee, Florida, the upstart producer Langwidj has been coming correct with a smattering of glitch-hop and splayed-out bass music for the last few years. Continuing their dovetailed combination of happy accidents, artifacts, and sculpted synthesis, the latest plate of Langwidj tracks balance weight and impact with abundant compositional risk. As a result, The Rust is incredibly excited to host the release of their latest EP; Escape Plan.

Fusing an abundance of textures with off-kilter arrangements, Escape Plan spans a tight grouping of styles, touching on half-time, neuro, and timeless downtempo motifs. Each of the three tracks is an entirely self-contained experience, giving listeners an expansive, topical taste of each particular lane. Juggling effusive melodies, blistering low-end, and rambunctious rhythms that stretch from an earnest swing to a vicious breakdown, Escape Plan is a precision EP designed for discerning listeners, and is surely just a taste of future Langwidj developments.

V/A - Oxidized, Vol. 3

Artwork by Mocktail

The Oxidized compilation series is a charity project we have been working on since the inception of The Rust Music, with Oxidized, Vol. 1 being our very first label release in February 2017. At the end of each year we select a new charity, aid organization, or non-profit, to which all proceeds from the series are donated. In the past we have donated to organizations focusing on natural disaster aid, environmental restoration and preservation, as well as civil/human rights advocates and COVID-19 relief efforts on local, national, and international levels. Proceeds from the Oxidized series in 2022 and 2023 will be donated to support equal rights to healthcare and access to abortion.

Across the last 6 years, we've recurrently tapped into a network of both our roster talent and our close associates across the experimental electronic music spectrum to craft our first two Oxidized compilations. Now, for the final entry in the Oxidized Trilogy, we've brought together 32 producers, songwriters, and musicians from the US, the UK, Germany and Georgia to craft 28 tracks that cross through a medley of motifs in Hip-Hop, Drum & Bass, Downtempo, and more. Please relax and enjoy this curated selection of moods and attitudes, courtesy of The Rust Music and our extended kinfolk.

crawdad sniper - Squid Pro Quo

Artwork: Andrew Bjorke (aab_stract)

Hailing from the D.C. area and falling back on a lifetime of experience behind the drum kit, Crawdad Sniper is a producer/DJ with a significant rhythmic bent. Already boasting a modest catalog of hip-shaking tunes and sprinkles of funkadelic electronic music, his latest collection of tracks fields sharp sound design and pocketed phasing with a polished profile. In a bid to start the new off with a righteous groove, The Rust is especially excited to host his newly minted EP, Squid Pro Quo

Tight, pinpoint percussion dominates the runtime of Squid Pro Quo, serving as the consistent foundation for his rhythmic and melodic arrangements. Taking clear advantage of his time as a drummer, it’s simultaneously the backbone and foreground of the EP, with each hit taking up generous sonic bandwidth. Each track flares with an alternate series of forward and laid back attitudes while keeping the focus squarely on kinetics; splices of throaty synthesis mingle with staccato lead lines and harmonized chord plucks, closing the distance between hard hitting neuro motifs and pronounced songwriting fundamentals. There’s an almost liquid quality to the EP’s engineering, producing a listening experience that is as hygienic as it is engaging, and betraying a significant dedication to cleanliness as well as design. For fans and appreciators of rhythmic inertia, funk motifs, and generous synthesis, Crawdad Sniper’s Squid Pro Quo is guaranteed to satisfy.
